The White Crow was founded in 2008 by the Fair-play Alliance and VIA IURIS as an award for a socially beneficial and courageous civic act and was jointly awarded until 2018. Since 2019, the award has been awarded by the Bystriny civic association.

 

It is very important for us that the precious people in our society who defend the truth, justice and public interest experience thanks and support. Often it's the other way around – they face threats, criminal charges, job loss or ridicule from the neighborhood. We are therefore trying to find them and publicly thank them at the gala dinner. We believe that the applause, support and media coverage of their stories will give them strength and energy. Plus, it can help draw attention to important topics and encourage more white crows.
